Everyone has the right to live free from abuse, neglect and harm. Abbeys Care is committed to protecting every person we support, whatever their age, background or needs. Safeguarding is not a policy on a shelf. It shapes how we recruit, how we train, how we deliver care and how quickly we act when something does not feel right.
Safer recruitment, with enhanced DBS checks and full referencing for every member of staff
Regular safeguarding training, for all carers and support workers, refreshed throughout their employment
Clear reporting procedures, that every member of our team knows and follows
A listening culture, where the people we support, their families and our staff are encouraged to speak up
Prompt action, working openly with local authorities, the police and the Care Quality Commission whenever needed
Anyone can raise a safeguarding concern: the person receiving care, a family member, a neighbour, a professional or a member of our own team. You do not need to be certain. If something feels wrong, tell someone.

You can also raise a concern directly with the local safeguarding team at Newham Council, for adults through the adult safeguarding team and for children through the children's safeguarding team (MASH).
The Care Quality Commission can be contacted if you have concerns about a regulated care service.
You will never be criticised for raising a concern in good faith, even if it turns out nothing is wrong.
Every Abbeys Care employee completes safeguarding training as part of induction, with regular refreshers covering the signs of abuse and neglect, safe reporting and whistleblowing. Our staff know that raising a concern is always the right thing to do, and our whistleblowing procedure protects any member of staff who speaks up.
